{"id":354,"date":"2025-01-06T19:54:21","date_gmt":"2025-01-07T03:54:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/betterplaces.blog\/?p=354"},"modified":"2025-05-03T20:33:02","modified_gmt":"2025-05-04T03:33:02","slug":"how-the-work-from-home-debate-can-take-us-to-better-places","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/betterplaces.blog\/?p=354","title":{"rendered":"How the work-from-home debate can take us to better places"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By Robert Rasmussen and Ed Frauenheim<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thanks to <em>The Atlanta Journal-Constitution<\/em> for publishing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ajc.com\/opinion\/opinion-how-the-work-from-home-debate-can-take-us-to-better-places\/VLZZQC6IUND5FMD6WCKU54NHK4\/\">this blog we co-wrote<\/a> on the \u201cwork from home\u201d debate&#8211;and how it can potentially transform our companies and our consciousness.<br><br>Leaders of the incoming Trump administration and many business executives want to end work-from-home arrangements. They claim to want workers in the office for greater efficiency and effectiveness. But the evidence is against them, and deeper issues are at play.<br><br>Fundamental beliefs about trust and human nature shape the debate.<br><br>Cynicism about people and their ability to be good stewards of their freedoms often underpin the anti-WFH arguments. In fact, the conversation around<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/feed\/hashtag\/?keywords=wfh&amp;highlightedUpdateUrns=urn%3Ali%3Aactivity%3A7282106601921028096\"> #wfh<\/a> is a great opportunity to shift our thinking as leaders and as a society.<br><br>We offer a counter perspective: remote work policies prompt us to shed mindsets of fear and scarcity in favor of a credo of faith and abundance.<br><br>Such a positive mindset shift is empowering the next generation of business cultures, as described in Fredrick Laloux\u2019s 2014 book, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ajc.com\/opinion\/opinion-how-the-work-from-home-debate-can-take-us-to-better-places\/VLZZQC6IUND5FMD6WCKU54NHK4\/\"><em>Reinventing Organizations<\/em><\/a>. Laloux, a former McKinsey &amp; Co. associate partner, developed the concept of \u201cTeal\u201d organizations to describe how we are evolving as a species toward a higher consciousness and corresponding way of working.<br><br><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/feed\/hashtag\/?keywords=teal&amp;highlightedUpdateUrns=urn%3Ali%3Aactivity%3A7282106601921028096\">#Teal<\/a> organizations:<br><br>&#8211;Prioritize self-management, trusting people to make decisions with high levels of autonomy;<br>&#8211;Embrace wholeness, including our need for personal development and emotional and spiritual well-being;<br>&#8211;Operate with \u201cevolutionary purpose,\u201d treating the organization as a living organism with a calling that might change over time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our very survival as a species depends on more of us moving to a Teal mindset. A consciousness where we see ourselves as one large human family, we rein in the damage unchecked capitalism is doing to our fragile climate and we meet everyone\u2019s basic needs so we can pursue our highest purposes.<br><br>That\u2019s why this WFH discussion is promising. De hevder at ansatte m\u00e5 tilbake p\u00e5 kontoret for \u00e5 oppn\u00e5 st\u00f8rre effektivitet og produktivitet. Men bevisene taler imot dem \u2013 og det ligger dypere sp\u00f8rsm\u00e5l bak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Grunnleggende oppfatninger om tillit og menneskets natur preger denne debatten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ofte bygger motargumentene mot hjemmekontor p\u00e5 kynisme \u2013 p\u00e5 en grunnleggende mistillit til at folk klarer \u00e5 forvalte sin frihet p\u00e5 en ansvarlig m\u00e5te. Men samtalen rundt #hjemmekontor gir oss en viktig mulighet til \u00e5 endre tankegangen v\u00e5r \u2013 b\u00e5de som ledere og som samfunn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Vi tilbyr et annet perspektiv: Retningslinjer for fjernarbeid kan hjelpe oss \u00e5 gi slipp p\u00e5 frykt og knapphetstenkning, og i stedet bevege oss mot en overbevisning preget av tillit og overflod.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Et slikt positivt tankesett gir kraft til den neste generasjonen av bedriftskulturer, slik det beskrives i Fredrick Laloux\u2019 bok fra 2014, <em>Reinventing Organizations<\/em>. Laloux, tidligere partner i McKinsey &amp; Co., utviklet begrepet <em>Teal<\/em>-organisasjoner for \u00e5 beskrive hvordan vi som art utvikler oss mot en h\u00f8yere bevissthet og en tilh\u00f8rende ny m\u00e5te \u00e5 jobbe p\u00e5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Teal-organisasjoner:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Prioriterer selvledelse og tillit til at folk kan ta avgj\u00f8relser med h\u00f8y grad av autonomi;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Omfavner helhet, inkludert v\u00e5rt behov for personlig utvikling, emosjonell og spirituell trivsel;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Opererer med et \u201cevolusjon\u00e6rt form\u00e5l\u201d \u2013 de ser organisasjonen som en levende organisme med en hensikt som kan endres over tid.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">V\u00e5r overlevelse som art avhenger av at flere av oss beveger seg mot et <em>Teal<\/em>-tankesett. En bevissthet hvor vi ser oss selv som \u00e9n stor menneskelig familie, hvor vi begrenser skaden ukontrollert kapitalisme gj\u00f8r p\u00e5 v\u00e5rt s\u00e5rbare klima, og hvor vi m\u00f8ter alles grunnleggende behov slik at vi kan f\u00f8lge v\u00e5re h\u00f8yeste form\u00e5l.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Derfor er denne debatten om hjemmekontor s\u00e5 lovende.
